Bird Photography Weekly #14

King Eider

Here in New England, we are starting to look for our winter specialities. We can usually count on a King Eider or two to show up in the coastal waters. This particular individual (well, I presume it is the same individual) has been seen for the last few year in Gloucester. I digi-scoped this about two years ago.

Sweet. I saw an immature male and it was wonderful, but it does not hold a candle to this one. Wow. look at that bill!

Very cool bird. I just love the variety of shapes, sizes, and colors nature allows us to enjoy.

HI Christopher,
A great shot for a great visit... We do have them time to time in Iceland, but there are very hard to take into pictures at least with the lens (300mm) I have... Great shot... Thanks for sharing.

I always liked looking at their colour combinations on their faces, as well as all the other northern eiders.
