Bird Photography Weekly #35

Tree Swallow - Tachycineta bicolor

For me, yet another harbinger of Spring is when the Tree Swallows start to return. I started noticing my first Tree Swallows a few weekends back. Without a doubt, some of the best pics I will ever get of a swallow, as these dynamic fliers will never be caught by my lens when they are in flight. This seemed to be a favored perch next to the salt pans on Plum Island, where you were also able to see them hunting for food and setting up house in the many nest boxes that are put up for them there.

Great pictures of the tree swallow. They have been everytwhere I go lately!

It is rare for them to sit long enough to observe them like this. I love their iridescence, which you captured beautifully.

I agree with you on the difficulty of photographing these birds in flight. I, too, had to wait for them to perch before I could snap off a few shots. Lovely shots!

Great photos. As you say these birds are almost impossible to catch on the wing.

Cool captures!

The swifts and swallows haven't arrived here yet. Hope they'll be here soon.

Great captures of one of my favorite cavity nesting birds Chris! I love that last shot. Was it windy or was this guy getting ready to take off? Cool pose!

You've got to love that iridescent blue right?
