Quick guess without deep thought or field guides...American Woodcock.
Ok big guess. Whip poor will..and mostly because its on my mind..
Comes around here in the evening to shout over and over..then at 5 am to be our alarm clock..no thanks..lol.
.but I caught a quick view as I looked out my bedroom window...It was on the roof of my sisters house.

@dAwN Not a bad guess. It's been a while since I've heard whips, so I probably wouldn't mind going to sleep or waking up to them.

@Laura With all the poor pics I take of birds (many as they exit the frame) we could probably put together a new game for while we are all up in Rangeley again. "Idenity the crappy butt-shot" Unfortunately I think everyone would guess the White-cheeked Mauerbird immediatley
