Gray Jay (Perisoreus canadenis)Just got in from vacation last night from a week-long trip to Maine, so I am playing catch-up here. I took quite a few photos, but really haven't had time to do much with them yet. I chose a few quick easy ones to post for this week's Bird Photography Weekly, as a follow-up to
last week's. BUT, lo and behold, I just learned that several posts that I had scheduled before I went away never appeared (they just stayed scheduled) which is rather annoying.
Anyway,
last week I had intended to post some older photos of Gray Jays that I had taken, and I thought I post a few more this week, since they were such a big hit with everybody else on the trip. (And really, they are such charismatic birds, why wouldn't they be popular?)

These are beautiful series of Gray Jay!
Ah, the Whiskyjack. This is one of my favoite birds from the sub-alpine in Colorado.
I am SO jealous of your pictures of the Gray Jay! They're so good!
Steve first saw them while snow-shoeing in the White Mountains a few winters ago and every time we go hiking in NH we look for them but can never find them.
Sounds like a great trip :)
Awww! Such cute birds. I wish I could see these birds in person.
Nice series, and the Gray Jay makes me wish I could get into the boreal forests more often - loved them when I encountered them out west years ago. Great camp entertainment.
What an industrious little creature!
Beautiful shots of the Gray Jay, Christopher. So different from both the Blue Jays that I'm used to and the Steller's Jays we saw in Colorado (featured in my BPW post this week).
So glad to see y'all made it back safe and sound from your trip. Hope you had a fun time of it!
Of course, of much greater importance... Do you realize it's been over a month since you posted any woodpecker photos?!? I'm going through withdrawals here! Bring on the woodpeckers!! ;-D
...what a cool bird! I've never seen a Gray Jay! They sort of remind me of Ewoks from Star Wars (something about their faces)!
A beautiful set of three, I love the second where he poses and looks almost smug.
Love those Gray Jay pics Christopher! One of the birds that is on my list, they seem to have such spunk that I would love to see one myself as they are probably very entertaining to observe.
Thanks all! I do really enjoy seeing these birds. Very inquisitive, and quite brave. Almost every one I have encountered will take peanuts from your had (and will steal your lunch if you aren't looking!)
For those of you in the New England area (or willing to travel), I am considering trying to organize a trip to the White Mountains for Birders Who Blog Tweet & Chirp, where we would very likely encounter them. I'll let you know...
Nice photos of the Gray Jay..
I was wondering what had happened to your posts. What went wrong with blogger?
Look forward to your posts of Maine.
See you soon!
You've been busy - I have yet to add a gray jay to my list, but enjoy living vicariously through your photos.
