Eastern Amberwing

Yup - more dragonflies for today, although I'm not as happy with these. This particular dragonfly was pretty active, and rarely stayed still for long, so getting the focus just right was difficult (and I still never quite nailed it).

Eastern Amberwing (Perithemis tenera)

Check back tomorrow - I'm saving my favorite dragonfly photos from this week for Friday!

Pretty. I took my dragonfly book to study this. I prefer photographing dragonflies when they perch on a twig or a reeds. It helps me to blur the background and make the dragonfly stand out in the picture. Well, it is not easy with some species that perch on flat surfaces like this.

Thanks - I prefer not to shoot them on the ground either, but especially with these guys I took what I would get!
Which dragonfly book do you have?

I am a novice at this, but I could fill a photo album with blurry dragon or damsels...I too have chased this one around...Michelle
