Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. This is supposed to be a birding blog, but frankly the birding has been a bit slow (well, expect for a few outings for shorebirds) but it continues to be good times for looking at dragonflies. Today I'm posting some photos I took yesterday. I've been trying to get photos of Twelve-spotted Skimmers for a while, but the ones I've encountered have been a lot more skittish than many of the others I've tried to photograph. A lot more patience, and moving at a much, much slower pace, (anybody watching me would've thought I was doing some sort of glacial-paced Tai-chi) got me close enough to get a few pics that I like...

I like the looks of this species.

That's up close and personal! Excellent series Christopher!
Very nice shots! up close and personal!
Does it say birding blog up there in your header? I didnt notice...always thought you were a nature blogger with a love of birdies..:)
Chistopher, I am learning to love to take dragonfly pictures as they are extremely photogenic. Love your shots and post as many as you would like because I don't tire of seeing them! ;-)
You've got my own local skimmers beat by four whole spots! Nice shots.
Good job. BTW, I did get a copy of the Mass dragon fly field guide you recommended. It has been very helpful.
Patience does pay off! Nice shots Chris. What beautiful wings.
wow, those shots are incredible.
every time i have tried the glacial approach, they've flown off to chase another invading boy, or a pretty girl...
Nice shots Christopher - i caught some pics of blue/purple dragons in PA (in my blog)

What they said: excellent shots.

Like a lot of us, I suppose, birding was my first and remains my most abiding love, but it serves as a window into the miraculous world of natural wonders. It brings us awake to the incredible variety that's been around us all along and then, eyes newly open, it's like we're seeing Dragonflies for the first time. And ants. And wildflowers. And clouds. And...
