Bird Photography Weekly #66

Last week, I posted photos of a King Eider for my Bird Photography Weekly Post. This week, I'd like to present a few photos of it's more common cousin (in these parts at least)... the Common Eider:

Common Eider - Somateria mollissima

I can't quite decide which is the more attractive of the pair - the male or the female.

PS - as always click on the photos to see larger versions!

I think they're both great too. I'd be happy to see either - a lifer. :)

Nice shots, Christopher. Every bit as attractive as the king, even if less rare.

Your photos make it clear that the COEI is anything but common - we overlook it for the King when we should just enjoy it. All your photos from the RGVBF were also much appreciated - thanks.

Spot on exposure in all those pictures, especially the white on black background.

Gorgeous shots of the Common Eider Chris. The male is very handsome but my vote goes to the beautiful shades of brown, black and blue of the female. And those patterns are amazing on that second shot with the outstretched wing.
