...beautiful captures of a beautiful bird. I love the sleepy-eyed look in the last shot.

Wonderful shots, Chris! Somehow it reminds me of some oriental wise man. :)

Owls are some of my favorite birds. They are really amazing creatures. I have yet to photograph one in the wild. Maybe someday! This is a great shot.

I really love these images. First, of course, the owl. But there's something about them that is soft that makes them even more wonderful. Did you do something in post to create that?

Thanks all!

This bird was definitely dozing - or at least trying to. I fear that there was quite a bit of commotion about him, and there was alot of other (non-birder) activity near him. I got my shots and left.
Bob - now that you say that, I totally see the oriental wise man!

Nothing particularly special done in post-processing - just the standard cropping, lightening, and a bit of sharpening. These were mostly hand-held in low light conditions so maybe that adds a bit of the softness that you are picking up on!

Great shots! I am envious. I have yet to photograph an owl in the wild - not just at a rehab center.

Very nice - I am going to have to make this a target bird during the next year. So far haven't even heard one :(
